Strangely enough. I like the studio version more, but this fulfilled my Replacements craving for the time being, and I thank you for that. Now I'm off to search for "Here comes the regular"!
Darkiver Says:
This is way ahead of it's time. Sure having rock stars be talking like this about sexuality and gender nowadays would be expected. But in the early 80's?? Damn, awesome as usual Paul Westerburg.

My friend Harry performed this song for our school's GSA Coffeehouse. It was beyond stellar. Amazing job Harry.

Paul Westerberg is one of the greatest lyric writers of all time in my opinion. All the crap out there and so few know of this wonderful music. Such is life. Saw them at the 40 watt when it was on Broad Street in Athens about '85 or so. Wish we had video phones then. Only have the memory and that's a bit fuzzy.

Unless I'm mistaken Joan Jett merely covered the song, and this is the original.
GOTHVAMP72 Says:

Bsbailas Says:
Maybe you should stick to a gender... Most people wouldn't take that offensively because they're NORMAL.
bombomchicka7 Says:
I love Joan Jett's cover.
lpafridi Says:
um. do people realize the term "he she" is offensive? do you mean the song is referring to transgendered individuals (which its most likely not)? or gender variant folk? or just....androgynous people who like messing with the gender binary? im sure "he she" is not all encompassing.
TheNovemberRomance Says:
I think that this song has the meaning that YOU want it to have. You CAN look at as some sort of he she.. Or. You can. Stop. And just listen. And assest the true beauty here. And you will learn. This is more than some sort of song about some sort of he she. It's about love.
daviddowns81 Says:
Great song, once of my favorites from The Mats.... but word of advice.. the disclaimer doesnt work, since this is not fair use. Fair Use means you can use clips from a song to back up an opinion or view on it, for journalistic purposes. Posting a whole song without that is not fair use, it is copyright infringement.
melody39able Says:
"he might be a father, but he sure ain't a dad" sums up my relationship with my father perfectly. This band wrote the soundtrack of my life way before I was even born.
