Lots of people can afford it. The average U.S. car purchase is $30,000. A $35K car is not considered expensive anymore.
eliasshedd Says:
When considering price remember that a 30 mpg car will cost you about $26,000 in gas to drive it 200,000 miles. An EV of the same size will cost you $4,000. You save $22,000.* *assuming $3.90 per gallon of gas and $0.10 per KWH
edyken77 Says:
the fact that you are trolling on all the fit videos makes me think you are being paid to slam the car. Who do you work for? Nissan? Ford?
julianjmc25 Says:
They should allow this vehicle to be purchased and not leased, just like the nissan leaf
MediPistol88 Says:
All electrics are expensive and in the 30,000 to 43,000 like the leaf, focus electric, chevy volt, etc.. All of those aren't as reliable as hondas (maybe the leaf might be close) and dont have as much torque as this car
00301200 Says:
this is an extremely expensive vehicle to purchase considering its size and quality...in this economy who can afford a vehicle like this which retails for over $35,000, even if it saves gas? These people must be out of their mind. Wait until the prices drop from an insanely high level to more reasonable levels of below 18,000..then go out and buy.
beenmb Says:
This is awesome! Love the idea of a Honda Fit EV!! The range is perfect for daily driving. Hey Honda, during the time the EV's are only available to the millionaire's at Google would you twink the gas Fit so it will go +40MPG for us regular folks.
danwat1234 Says:
Yup that's true. Carbon fiber would help bring weight down. Definitely a first generation Insight or a CRX get great mileage, but the fit EV would get something around 90MPG equivalent. But 50MPG is good enough and something to be proud of
Orangeness81 Says:
You missed my point. A petrol engine that could get the mileage of a the current hybrid segment leader... Yes, batteries are expensive. There are better ways. More light weight materials, less heavy gimmick-y stuff (sunroof, etc), and taller gear ratio's. being efficient isn't complicated, people just expect too much...
danwat1234 Says:
What happened is that Lithium ion batteries are expensive. Try buying the equivalent battery power of this car (probably around 24KWH like the Nissan Leaf), in laptop batteries on Ebay or something. You'll get to thousands and thousands of dollars. Most laptop batteries are about 50 watt hour, maybe a bit more. 24,000 of the car / 50 watt hour of the laptop is around 480 laptop batteries.
danwat1234 Says:
Uh no the Prius won't get as good of equivalent gas mileage as this fit. This fit is electric and will achieve an equivalent MPG of over 85, whereas the Prius is about 45-50MPG.
danwat1234 Says:
The Lithium Ion battery costs alot! That is the main reason why the electric version of the car is so much more expensive. Try buying that amount of battery, in laptop batteries on Ebay or something and see how much the price comes to. In the future, batteries will be cheaper but for now it's the limiting factor.
danwat1234 Says:
They could release a sporty electric car too
Linkto4 Says:
when will this car release?
AZM55555 Says:
I love you HONDA.
krirks Says:
some people still don't understand that batteries are the main cost of the EV which is the reason why the car is much more expensive than typical. Worse, some still don't know that they will pay way less when they driving which in the long term it's much cheaper. I know it's still not practical and has to be a second car but it's a good start and you don't have to depend on those mo********er in the middle east.
Orangeness81 Says:
We could buy a 20 year old CRX for 2-3k... Get better MPG than an insight, compete with a prius, etc. And, it would still be kinda fun. Then Save $20k-$30k... What happened Honda? :(
moto46 Says:
There's plenty of fossil fuel out there it's not running out yet and it won't for many years it's just never made known to people to keep the prices artificially high. Not everyone wants to drive battery vehicles they are boring and cannot be classed as cars most people want cars and companies will find out the hard way. Also they should not be called Eco they still use electricity which produces carbon to make or dangerous nuclear power they also use up more natural resources to make in the f
skylinmegas9290 Says:
fossil fuel can olny last for so long ....plus if people invest in (buy) electric vehicles the more money there is for company to advance development . maybe one day we all can afford a monster sports car that can do 0-60 in 1 second (electric motors dont need time to rev so they can reach top speed almost as fast as you can flip a switch)
nikosniko123 Says:
Just wanted to also say why would someone pay like 36K for a Fit when they can just buy a Prius for 24K and get just as good mileage if not better. and unlimited distance.
nikosniko123 Says:
don't get me wrong the fit is a great car. i know i have one. But a 15K mark up to get an EV..... COME ON HONDA.. You just took out the engine and trans and put in some electronics, batteries and a electric motor for 15K more than a loaded fit. WAY to Much Money. I predict very low sales.
moto46 Says:
honda why are you ensisting on electric and hybrid vehicles only your forgetting the exciting fire breathing sports models the type R's etc you need new ones to breathe excitement into your brand you know you have an image issue so you need to release some real sporty petrol flagship models as well as the eco battery wagons
speeddemon157mph Says:
I want a civic SI!!!!!
johanlibert Says:
i WANT A FIT !
