No clear coat. Aluminum motor paint on the crankcase (duplicolor) and VHT barrel paint on the cylinders. The VHT paint is not gas proof regaurdless of what they say so be careful with and fuel leaks you have. The paint will wash off. the aluminum holds up well but chips easy.

When you rotate the crank the rods will go into the block far enough that nothing is sticking above the gasket surface.

This is a great idea for both the stand and your block off system. I am about to clean up my own xs650 project in the next month and I am going to use this idea.
