Orr the outdoor coil could be dirty perhaps.
DrZarkloff Says:
From what you're saying, I think that the button you're describing is the high pressure switch. It sounds like the high pressure switch is bad.

Plz help...my outside fan will not come on....i pressed the button with a spring on the unit & it comes on but when realese it it stops...what causes that & what can i do2fix it thks
Calumniation Says:
Control voltage comes from the transformer. Refer to manufactures diagrams to transformer location. And the wire carrying 24V comes from the red wire.

DrZarkloff Says:

DrZarkloff Says:
Yes and yes.
mcdavidhome100 Says:
Ok thanks. I went ahead and replaced the contacts anyway because it was very old and inexpensive. So far the unit is running good. Just to be sure, doesn't the control voltage come from the thermostat? And isnt that wire usually yellow?
DrZarkloff Says:
More than likely the contactor isn't getting control voltage for it to energise. It could be a pressure switch or some other safety that has it locked out.
mcdavidhome100 Says:
Hey thanks a lot for the video Dr. Z. I'm having what I think to be contact issues with my AC. The compressor won't come on but when I manually press the spring loaded button on the contact itself, it comes on fine but turns off after releasing. Does this means my contact switch is bad?
DrZarkloff Says:
Thanks for watching. It baffles me when I see techs connect the gauges to a system right away.
tony casteel Says:
nicely done i would have done the check the same way my dad drilled that in my head (you sure you dont know him lol)he always said never worry bout the gauges untill the last resort on anything(i serviced ice machines mostly for his commercial accounts)and the slight drop from just hooking the hoses up could drain a unit of its juicefor times we had to use a gauge we made a gauge ourselves that was the gauge head and just a stub if we needed to check charge
vivalosdano Says:
Thanks Doc.
maness2112 Says:
Check valve? Wtf?
maness2112 Says:
You don't check for continuity on a live circuit you will get unusual readings.
