"Q&A: What We Can Learn From the Dutch About Teen Sex" - Maia Szalavitz
Luti77 Says:
The Dutch way is very comparable to the German way of thinking. What is forbidden, is exciting, therefore extreme activities soar. A little off topic, but I really love the following article about the Dutch communication with their children.

I love the older woman at the end saying at REWE there are nice young men. Great.
PioggiaInfinita Says:

There is one more thing I would like to mention. It is an opinion I've heard many times from many different people so I can say that it is quite common. Many people in Germany wonder how the American Government won't hesitate to send 18 years old kids to war but forbid them to drink beer. Many people perceive it as a sort of macabre hypocrisy.
magauchsein Says:
According to my experience forbidding the kids to use alcohol untill they are 21 is just a strategy of avoiding the responsibility and avoiding our duty of teaching our children to manage their live in a possible reasonable way. German kids start to drink beer with their parents at the age of 15 (Polish kids starts to drink illegally at this age) and my impression (after a lot of Polish - German student exchange meetings) is that the German kids are much better prepared and thus more reasonably.
magauchsein Says:
this could be a good topic for discussion between German and American teachers. I would also invite Polish teachers as well. The Poland follows a very similar attitude to the USA. I'm Polish living in Germany so I'm able to compare it quite closely. For one thing it is really embarrassing that we live in a culture depending on alcohol which is a powerful and destructive drug. On the other hand I do believe that we parents have a duty to prepare our children to deal with this problem.
Josie Gustavsen Says:
