An alternative way to encourage riders to move in the carriageway, IF SAFE to get a better view of the road ahead. We discussed this method during the day and she liked it. The carriageway is divided into 5 areas with the following applying: Nearside position 1 Left of centre position 2 Cent... More

Yeah, been using this for a bit now, just makes the ride, gear change and throttle control so much smoother and relaxing. With the correct road position gives me the safest line in and out of the corner also the best view for any on coming problems! Brilliant.

- Well done on passing your test - Now you can start riding the Advanced way...... If you think it is a better way.
iwebbys Says:
I've watched advanced biker fornyears for tips and it's excellent,,but the bike test and way to ride after should be the same,,
iwebbys Says:
@toprunmet..I my self have just passed my mod 2.. Now test all done,,,I find it really hard that you have tomlearn to ridena bike fro your test one way then as soon as you have passed you learn how ton ride safely... Surely we should have a standard test where instead of learning twice we allnlearn the sa,

Well done = Keep me posted...Are you happy with gear selection and balance of the throttle?

had a go on the way back from work last night while on nights, mad a real difference even in the dark, I was able to set myself up better for the corner, so there was less braking and I had a smoother roll into the corner and better positioning on the exit. now all I have to do work on this so it becomes habit. Thanks
advancedbiker Says:
Thanks for the feedback, let me know how you get on with the 5 'system'

Hi, Great vid, i can see the logic of haveing 5 tracks rather than 3 which is what I have been using, will now try the 5 tracks. Its will smoothe out the conering and should be less braking. Brilliant!

- Thanks for the comments.

Reading about the DSA take in the 5 point position, I teach from CBT thro direct access to advanced. I have a lad going for test tomorrow on his mod2, if he moves more than a third into the curb for a right or out more than 2 thirds for a left he will poss fail. The problem is they still want then up at full road speed if it's clear. Without having the advantage of position for a better view. The sooner the DSA recognise that learners CAN assess when it's safe to move to a good position the bet

Will have a chat about it on Saturday next

I find that if you say P 1,this is the near side, P 2, this is the center the carriageway and P 3, this is by the white line. The you got to 4,5 and 6 on the other side of the road.

-MANYS THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK, WILL TRY IT..

At EKAM we've used this method for many years. The only difference is we say "track" rather than "position" which is quicker to say and easier on the ear!
LazyDaysRider Says:
I remember one of your previous videos which used this system and I think it's a really nice approach to teaching the "lines". Not sure I could have "1, 1, 1, 2, 2, over to 4 and back to 3" in my ear all the time but I'd certainly find it easier to learn. Great video all round AR.
1964Hall Says:
I've used this to explain a position before 12345 3 being the center of your side of the road 1 in the gutter, 5 white line. Some people grasp it better than the N/S or O/S car wheel track explaination. And yes, always wise to give up position for safety when you spot something coming the other way, just look at the number of worn white lines on some corners to remind you of what does happen reguarly. Keep it up Sir. \v/

I give her a ring and she how she feels about this.....
markgr1nyer Says:
The reason they don't like it in the DSA test is because they don't expect learners to know it, and if done incorrectly, the positioning could be seen as being very dangerous to an observer, especially when they don't realise you actually know what your doing.....Ironically, I got 5 minors on my mod 2 last week when I relapsed into advanced riding, but a pass is a pass lol
loki1066 Says:
all that 3'ing when you're '2,2,2,2,2'ing!!! I'd smack her arse when you pulled over at the end.
advancedbiker Says:
There is always someone out there trying to get you, and I applaud your approach to it.
animal100000 Says:
I think it was to stop some one trying to under take you.Iv e been riding over ten years and always ride thinking at junctions that they will pull ot infront of you and I am still learning every day :)
advancedbiker Says:
I am on my BMW R1200GS and the rider on a Kawasaki 6f.
advancedbiker Says:
-That would explain it. With this 'Advanced' way you alway position for safety, which often means trying to get a heads upon what is happening in front of you. So you are constantly assessing the driving envornment you are in. There are NO SET Rules for positioning as everything changes so quickly. For example if there is nothing coming the other way as you approach a left hand bend, why not take up position 5 - But if a 38 tonner comes the otherway you must ALWAYS GIVE GROUND !
jimbo80982 Says:
what kind of bike is that youve got?
jimbo80982 Says:
surely you mean SLIGHTLY left not left. Id much rather stay just right of centre because that way people will see you easier imo. Also youd be less likely to get a "didnt see you" because youd be in the mirror of soemone if they tried to overtake you.
