]]> KTM 525 XC ATV www.fzrphotography.com http This beautiful 2009 KTM 525 XC-ATV came in for service and repairs and I just had to make a quick video clip of it. Oddly enough, it's owner is a frail elderly gentleman. Very good for him, that he's still out kick'n-it in the sand with all the kids! The KTM's are very fast and equipped with a lot of high-end equipment, right out of the box. It's too bad though, because it looks like KTM may be dropping the ATV's in the US.

One of the leaks was from the Rocker Cover, so we decided to replace the Cam Bearings and Water Pump Seals while we were in that area. However, the cam was worn too much where the pump seals ride, so we had to order a new cam to complete the repair.

The bike in this video is a 2002 KTM 250 EXC. The engine (cylinder) was completely full of water when we start the recovery. This method has never let us down in our almost monthly bike drownings! - After getting your bike running be sure to let it run normally for at least 30 mins or so to ensure all water is cleared out of the crank area. If you are unable to get the bike started - it is imperative you pull the top end and clear out any traces of water in the crank areas, bearings, power valves, etc.. If you let a wet engine sit for even a few days it will cause substantial damage.

]]> KTM 525 EXC adjustable sidestand - modification / repair The KTM EXC sidestands are well known for being weak around their pivot bolt. The soft alloy metal around the sidestand's pivot hole is prone to stretching and finally snapping off. This happens especially if the rider uses the nearside footpeg to mount the bike with the sidestand down. Welding the sidestand back together will not make for a good repair, so I decided to do away with the top part of the sidestand and have a new one remade in steel. I also needed to introduce some means of adjusting the length of the stand to accommodate the height changes when swapping between offroad and supermoto wheels. The design and manufacture of the repair section was carried out by Bob Locke at: Locke Engineering Unit 19, Thorpe Industrial Estate Eversley Way Egham Surrey TW20 8RG England Tel: 0044 (0)1784 438120 First the top 70mm of the sidestand is cut off. The square section is then turned down to about 21mm. This is made to fit inside a stainless steel tube of internal diameter about 21.5mm (OD 25.4mm). A new top section is then machined from mild steel and welded at the correct angle to follow the line of the original sidestand. I've yet to work out the correct length of the sidestand leg to suit both the offroad and supermoto wheels. This is best done with the SM wheels on the bike and the sidestand leg trimmed to suit. The ltube and leg can then be drilled for a M5 fixing bolt.
