Manuals can be found at the dealer and online.** In this video I show how to adjust the valves on a 1985 Honda XR600. Each valve and rocker arm is covered by a screw on cap called a valve adjustment cap. The caps should be removed to adjust the valves.The valves should be adjusted with the bike cold and the piston at TDC (top dead center) on the compression stroke. There are two small threaded covers on the left side of the crankcase. Behind the larger cover is a bolt attached to the crankshaft that can be used to rotate the crankshaft using a ratchet and socket. Behind the smaller cover you can see the outer edge of the rotor/flywheel. On the outer edge of the rotor is etched a line next to the letter 'T'. When the line is exactly in the center of the smaller cover hole, the piston is at top dead center. Use a ratchet and socket to rotate the crankshaft counter clockwise until the line next to the letter T is centered in the smaller cover hole. If the piston is at TDC, the rocker arms should be loose and you should be able to wiggle the rocker arms with your fingers. If you can't, than the piston is not at TDC on the compression stroke and the crankshaft should be rotated another 360 degrees counter clockwise. Once the piston is at TDC on the compression stroke the valves can be adjusted. On each rocker arm is a adjustment screw and a lock nut. After the lock nut <b>...</b>

]]> 2009 Honda Shadow 750 Aero rear differential service. A quick video on how to service the rear differential on most shaft drive motorcycles. I bought mine a few weeks ago and have zero previous experience working on motorcycles. This was a pretty easy job to do, and saved a good bit of cash on the 600 mile service. Apparently this will need to be done every 8000 miles or so and I see no reason why anyone should be paying more than $20 for something that is this damn easy.

]]> 2009 Honda Shadow Aero 750 oil change First oil change on a 2009 Honda Shadow Aero 750. For having no previous experience, this was a pretty easy job. The hardest part was taking the old oil filter off because it was on so tight. Realistically this is about a 20 minute job that the dealers charge $40 for. You can get the filter for $9 and the oil for $4-12/qt depending on what you want to put in it. Just be sure to use motorcycle engine oil, not car engine oil, because the motorcycle oil has different additives which protect the clutch.. No oil came out of the drain plug, because I drained the oil previously. I did not want it dripping on my carpet.

]]> Motorcycle Repair: How to Replace the Brake Fluid and Bleed the Brakes on a Motorcycle **Always follow the instructions in your repair manual when doing repair or maintenance work on a motorcycle. Manuals can be found at the dealer and online.** DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it attracts and absorbs water. It can absorb water through microscopic seams and through seals in a motorcycle brake system, and can absorb as much water as 2% or its volume per year. When brake fluid absorbs water it lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid, and the addition of water can cause corrosion to develop on brake system components. Lowering the boiling point of brake fluid can easily cause brake system failure on a hot day while riding in conditions that require an increase in braking, and it is important for all motorcyclist to include brake fluid replacement in their normal motorcycle maintenance. Some motorcycles have dual disc front brakes, ABS and linked brake systems, so the procedure may vary from the procedure in the video. It is important to always consult the repair manual for your motorcycle before attempting any repair work. Thank you for watching!


]]> 2009 Honda Shadow Aero 750 Lifter Adjustments. (Part 5 of the lifter adjustment series.) Adjusting the mechanical lifters on a 2009 Honda Shadow Aero for its 600 mile service. The specs are .15mm for the intakes and .20mm for the exhaust. There are two intake valves, and one exhaust valve per cylinder. Incidentally I had to go back and do it again, because the feeler gauge blades were stuck together and I set the gap wrong. It is most definitely worth checking to make sure that you are only using ONE blade at a time. Apparently new feeler gauges do that from time to time... Oh well.

]]> Honda CB100 Bobber The Simca Bobber Our friends kindly donated a 1970 Honda CB100 motorbike to us. The engine was seized, and the bike was completely covered in rust, as seen in the pictures. We decided to build a bobber out of it, in our spare time. This includes rebuilding the engine, gearbox, wheels...everything. Shortly after being delivered, we pulled the bike apart. We modified the frame, by extending it for that bobber look. The next to mod were the front and rear fenders, which are in the process of being painted now. We had everything but the wheels and bars sandblasted, and painted in house in our spraybooth. We rebuilt the engine, gearbox and wheels.
